Ottawa has made a couple of moves to fill a roster spot on the blueline.

On Friday, the team announced it is placing defender Zoe Boyd on long-term injured reserve. The team is signing defender Lauren MacInnis to a 10-day contract in response.

Boyd had already missed Ottawa’s game against Boston in Detroit, but was in the lineup this past Wednesday against New York. However, she left the game early, supposedly due to injury.

The Caledon, Ontario native has been banged up this month, as she was injured in a game against Toronto on March 2, missing Ottawa’s following contest a few days later. It is not known what has been ailing Boyd, but it is severe enough that she will be out through the Women’s Worlds break, and potentially beyond.

In 16 games, the former Quinnipiac captain has registered three assists, doing so in the team’s first four games of the season.

MacInnis has yet to play a game this season, as she was originally signed on as a reserve player to replace Taylor Davison back in December.

After finishing a five-year career at Northeastern, where she helped the team advance to the NCAA National Championship Game in 2022, MacInnis spent her first season in pro hockey overseas. She played 11 games with Frolunda HC in the women’s Allsvenskan league. She also played five games with DEC Salzburg Eagles in Denmark to start the 2022-23 campaign. In 16 total games, she registered four goals and four assists.

Ottawa has been busy over the past week, participating in a couple of trades right before the deadline and adding a few reserve players before the roster freeze.

Ottawa (6-0-6-6) is currently fourth in the league, the last playoff spot, two points ahead of Boston, but are six behind third-place Montreal.
