PWHL Seattle signs Danielle Serdachny

The Emerald City is on the board.
PWHL Seattle has signed forward Danielle Serdachny. She was made available to Vancouver during their exclusive signing period, during which they and Seattle have the first crack at signing players.
Serdachny had finished the first season of a three-year contract with the Ottawa Charge. Her new deal is a two-year contract that’ll carry through the 2026-27 season.
Serdachny was taken second overall by the Charge in the 2024 PWHL Draft. She came into the professional ranks with a lot of expectations after a stellar career at Colgate University. Unfortunately, the former Patty Kazmaier Award finalist struggled to find her scoring touch, scoring just two goals and six assists for eight points. She posted two assists in the playoffs, as the Charge made it all the way to the PWHL Final, ultimately losing to the Minnesota Frost.
While her performance in Ottawa might have been ominous, a new home might be what she needs to gain some footing. Serdachny has proven she can be a big-time player in her tenure with the Canadian National Team, scoring the golden goal in the 2024 IIHF Women’s World Championship Game.
The Charge elected to protect goaltender Gwyneth Philips, forward Emily Clark and defender Ronja Savolainen.
Seattle seemed to be off to a slow start compared to Vancouver, as General manager Cara Gardner Morey inked deals with defenders Claire Thompson and Sophie Jaques from the Frost, former Toronto Sceptres forward Sarah Nurse and Serdachny’s former teammate Emeranche Maschmeyer.
However, Seattle GM Meghan Turner has been hard at work. With one signing down, she’s eligible to sign four more players prior to the end of the signing period on Sunday at 5 p.m. ET.
With Serdachny and Maschmeyer both being taken, that means the Charge gets to protect another player, per the PWHL’s expansion rules. The team has announced that Gabbie Hughes is now being protected.
The first-ever PWHL Expansion Draft is on Monday, June 9.
