One of the top teams in the PWHL has inked its top draft prospect for the foreseeable future.

On Tuesday, Toronto announced it has signed forward Julia Gosling to a two-year contract.

Gosling was taken by the team from the hockey mecca of the world in the first round, sixth overall, at the second annual PWHL Draft in St. Paul on June 10. She is the first draft pick signed by Toronto this offseason.

“Julia brings a power-forward presence to our lineup,” general manager Gina Kingsbury said in a release. “She has size, an incredible shot, and is eager to continue to develop her game. Julia is an exciting player because of how high her ceiling is and how great of a teammate she is. Julia will make our roster, organization, and community better.”

The London, Ontario native is making the jump to the pro ranks after an exceptional four years at St. Lawrence University, also serving as captain during her senior season. Gosling was a big part of the Saints 2023-24 campaign that saw the team advance to the NCAA Tournament for the first time in seven years, ultimately losing to Wisconsin, the eventual runners-up, in the national quarterfinals. She scored 22 goals and 51 points in 37 games, a career-high.

“I’m so excited and honored to officially be a part of Toronto,” Gosling said. “I can’t wait to play in front of all their passionate fans and to be so close to home. I’m eager to work with their staff and players and to learn and grow from them.”

In 111 games at St. Lawrence, Gosling scored 60 goals and 68 assists. The former London Devilette has also made a name for herself on the international stage. She made her Team Canada debut at the 2018 IIHF Women’s Under-18 World Championship, winning bronze before taking home the gold medal at the 2019 tournament.

Gosling made her senior national team debut during the 2021-22 Rivalry Series, and was named to the Women’s Worlds roster this past spring. She scored two goals in the tournament in Utica, including one in the gold medal game, in which Canada beat the United States, 6-5 in overtime.

As a result of the signing, Toronto has 16 players on board for next season. Along with the likes of recent signings Daryl Watts and Emma Woods, the team has 10 players signed through the end of the 2025-26 campaign.
