Red Wings’ Cam Talbot leaves game against Canucks with lower-body injury
On Sunday afternoon, Detroit Red Wings goaltender Cam Talbot left his team’s game against the Vancouver Canucks with a lower-body injury.
UPDATE: Cam Talbot (lower-body injury) will not return to today's game.
— Detroit Red Wings (@DetroitRedWings) December 1, 2024It has not been specified what Talbot hurt in the contest. However, he left the ice after the Red Wings scored their second goal of the game in the latter half of the second period, with Ville Husso coming in relief.
The 37-year-old made his 14th start of the season on Sunday, playing 26:05 before exiting the game. He turned away 12 of the 14 shots he had faced.
The extent of Talbot’s injury has not been announced. If it results in the Caledonia, Ontario native missing time, general manager Steve Yzerman will have to make a decision. Alex Lyon, who is listed as having a lower-body injury, will not be traveling with the team on its upcoming road trip.
If Talbot is going to be on the shelf, hat will mean the Red Wings will have to either call up goaltending prospect Sebastian Cossa or veteran Jack Campbell. Both are currently with Detroit’s American Hockey League affiliate, the Grand Rapids Griffins. Cossa has been having a great year in the AHL, while Campbell only recently returned to the team after receiving treatment from the NHL/NHLPA Player Assistance Program.
In his first 14 appearances of the 2024-25 season, Talbot has a 6-5-2 record with a 2.67 goals-against average, a .916 save percentage and one shutout. He came to Detroit on a two-year contract with a $2.5 million AAV after spending the 2023-24 season with the Los Angeles Kings. In 500 NHL games, he has a career record of 251-181-44 with a 2.64 GAA, a .914 SV% and 32 shutouts. Talbot has also played in 36 Stanley Cup Playoff games, holding a 16-18 record with a 2.75 GAA, a .915 SV% and six shutouts.
