San Jose Sharks Assistant General Manager Ryane Clowe released a statement Sunday, announcing he has stepped down from his role with the club.

“Recently, I had to make the extremely difficult decision to resign from my position as assistant general manager with the San Jose Sharks,” Clowe said. “I truly loved being back in San Jose and working with Mike Grier and his entire team but at this point, this decision is in the best interest of my family.”

Clowe joined the Sharks in July 2024 after spending three seasons with the New York Rangers as a senior advisor and hockey operations advisor. As a player, Clowe spent most of the first eight seasons of his career with San Jose, scoring 101 goals and recording 170 assists for 271 points and 567 penalty minutes in 423 career regular-season games.

“The franchise has an exciting future ahead and is set up to be successful for a long period of time, and I am grateful to (Sharks’ General Manager Mike Grier) and (Sharks’ President) Jonathan Becher for giving me the opportunity to return to San Jose.”

Through 10 NHL seasons, Clowe, a native of St. John’s, N.L., scored 112 goals and 197 assists for 309 points and 618 penalty minutes in 491 regular-season games with the Sharks, Rangers and New Jersey Devils.

He also played in 70 career Stanley Cup Playoffs, scoring 18 goals and 28 assists for 46 points.

Taken by the Sharks in the sixth round of the 2001 NHL Entry Draft, Clowe spent three seasons in the Quebec Maritimes Junior Hockey League with the Rimouski Oceanic and the Montreal Rocket. In 145 regular-season games, Clowe scored 69 goals and recorded 104 assists for 173 points and 267 penalty minutes.
