The Seattle Kraken announced Wednesday that captain Jordan Eberle has been assigned to the AHL’s Coachella Valley Firebirds as part of a conditioning stint.

Sidelined since mid-November following pelvic surgery, Eberle has been limited to 17 appearances on the season in which he has registered six goals and five assists for 11 points alongside six penalty minutes and a plus-three rating. Skating in his fourth season with the Kraken, the 34-year-old right winger wrapped up last season with 17 goals and 27 assists for 44 points to rank fourth in team scoring. Eberle originally joined the Kraken as part of the 2021 NHL Expansion Draft.

Originally chosen 22nd overall by the Edmonton Oilers in the 2008 NHL Draft, Eberle has totaled 1,035 career contests counting stops with the Oilers, New York Islanders, and Kraken in which he has recorded 305 goals and 408 assists for 713 points. On eight occasions, Eberle has reached the 20-goal plateau – including twice with the Kraken – while with the Oilers in 2011-12 he neared point-per-game production in scoring 34 goals and adding 42 assists for a career-high 76 points coming in 78 games. The native of Regina, Sask., has also added 19 goals and 28 assists for 47 points through 76 appearances in the Stanley Cup Playoffs.

Eberle joins a Firebirds squad that sits third place in the AHL’s Pacific Division with a 25-15-1-5 record and 56 points. Established in 2022, the Firebirds have advanced to the Calder Cup Final in each of their first two seasons. Currently riding a four-game win streak, the Firebirds will try for their fifth-straight victory when the club retakes the ice Wednesday versus the Henderson Silver Knights, the farm club of the Vegas Golden Knights.

For the Kraken, the club entered the break for the 4 Nations Face-Off sitting 24-29-4 on the season and 11 points back of the Pacific Division rival Vancouver Canucks for the second wildcard seed in the Western Conference.
