The San Jose Sharks announced Thursday that they have placed veteran forward Barclay Goodrow on injured reserve.

The Sharks also announced they have recalled Ethan Cardwell from the Sharks’ American Hockey League (AHL) affiliate the San Jose Barracuda.

Goodrow has tallied two goals in 25 games this season while averaging 14:46 minutes of ice time.

Goodrow was originally placed on waivers by the New York Rangers last season after spending the last three seasons with the team. He has two more years remaining on his six-year contract, which he signed with the Rangers after having his rights traded from the Tampa Bay Lightning in July 2021. Goodrow’s deal carries a $3,641,667 cap hit through the end of the 2026-27 campaign. Across three seasons in New York, the Aurora, Ontario native scored 28 goals and 76 points in 240 games, including 10 points in 32 playoff appearances over that span.

The Sharks signed the undrafted forward in March 2014, and he spent the next five-plus seasons with the franchise. In 268 games with the Sharks, Goodrow scored 26 goals and 71 points. He played in 22 playoff games in San Jose, including the team’s run to the Western Conference Final in 2019. He was then traded to the Tampa Bay Lightning at the trade deadline, and ended up being one of the depth pieces to help the club go on to win the Stanley Cup in 2020 and 2021.

Meanwhile, Cardwell has appeared in three games with the Sharks at the NHL level. In the AHL, Cardwell has tallied one goal and seven points in 13 games.

San Jose is slated to face off against the Seattle Kraken in a doubleheader beginning Friday with a matinee game.
