The Vegas Golden Knights locked up their man on Thursday, signing defenseman Shea Theodore to a seven-year, $51.975 million contract with a $7.425 million cap hit.

Theodore was going to be an unrestricted free agent this summer, but the deal locks up the top blueliner with the Golden Knights through the 2031-32 season.

On Friday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Frank Seravalli and Tyler Yaremchuk discuss Theodore’s new contract and its benefits for all parties involved.

Tyler Yaremchuk: I feel like we say this all the time when the Golden Knights sign someone, but man, does this ever feel like a win-win! Shea Theodore gets a boatload of money to continue playing in Vegas, and the team gets one of their best defenseman locked up for under $7.5 million for the remainder of his prime.

Frank Seravalli: Then you add in the no-state income tax, then it’s a win-win-win. Look, this is a massive piece of business for Vegas. Consider the future of their blue line: Alex Pietrangelo, Noah Hanifin and Shea Theodore, and they’re all locked up for a little while. Not only that, but they’re under $24 million total starting next season.

You’ve got those guys for the foreseeable future at a time when, in pretty short order, for the first three years of this deal, the NHL salary cap will be north of $100 million, and they will be in a fantastic spot to continue to chase a Stanley Cup. We talk all the time about Stanley Cup contenders building from their back ends, and to me, that’s what’s going to keep Vegas so well positioned moving forward.
