Teddy Blueger’s mom wins 50/50 during Canucks game
Talk about one way to spend a vacation…and earn another one.
During the Vancouver Canucks’ game against the St. Louis Blues on Tuesday night, a fan won the nightly 50/50 drawing, taking home half of the $211,705 jackpot.
The fan? None other than Jana Blueger, the mother of Canucks forward Teddy Blueger.
Teddy Blueger said his mom is visiting from Latvia and had never played 50/50 before.
First time playing and she wins more than $100k.
Not a bad vacation.#Canucks
Jana was visiting British Columbia from the family’s native home of Riga, Latvia, and just happened to win $105,853. For reference, Teddy’s mom’s winnings wound account for a little over 17% of the 30-year-old’s $1.8 million salary–which is part of a two-year contract extension that he signed this past June.
When speaking to the media on Thursday, Teddy confirmed that it was his mom who won the big prize and that it was the first time she ever participated in a 50/50 drawing.
Unfortunately for Mrs. Blueger, her success didn’t lead to her son coming out on top. In Thatcher Demko’s season debut, the Canucks fell to the Blues 4-3 in overtime, marking back-to-back losses for Vancouver. Blueger ended up with no points and was a -1 while playing 12:36.
The former Minnesota State star has played in each of the Canucks’ 27 games this season, scoring four goals and four assists for eight points, though he hasn’t scored a goal in eight games.
The Canucks (14-8-5) are tied for fourth in the Pacific Division with the Calgary Flames, six points back of the Vegas Golden Knights for first place. Vancouver does hold the last Wild Card spot in the Western Conference. The team is set to host the defending champion Florida Panthers on Thursday night.
