Just one game into the 2024-25 NHL regular season, the Seattle Kraken got things going when they signed goaltender Joey Daccord to a five-year, $25 million contract extension, paying him an annual average value of $5 million.

Last season, Daccord went 19-18-11 with a .916 save percentage and 2.46 goals against average with three shutouts. While the Kraken missed the playoffs, Daccord carved out a reputation for himself as one of the most dependable netminders in the league.

On Wednesday’s episode of Daily Faceoff LIVE, Tyler Yaremchuk and former NHL defenseman Colby Cohen are joined by former NHL goalie Carter Hutton for another addition of “The Blue Paint.” The guys discuss Daccord’s extension if they think he’s worth the price tag.

Colby Cohen: Joey Daccord gets an extension today, and I’m not going to sit here and pretend that I’m super familiar with his game. I know who he is, I’ve seen him play, but he’s barely started 60 total games in the NHL. It’s a pretty nice contract for a guy with that little amount of experience.

Carter Hutton: I think it just goes to show you what he did in the minors. He had a Calder Cup run in the spring of 2023 where he brought the Coachella Valley Firebirds to Game 7 of the Final, and he was a workhorse, playing 26 straight games during that run. He carried the load for the Kraken last season, playing 50 games.

I feel like the way the salary cap is going up and the way things are going in Daccord’s progression into an every day goalie, I think this is a pretty good value buy for the Kraken.
