It looks like one of the Toronto Maple Leafs’ depth players might be back in the lineup soon.

On Sunday, Chris Johnston of The Athletic reported that all signs are pointing toward forward Calle Jarnkrok making his season debut on Monday night when the Maple Leafs host the San Jose Sharks on Monday night.

Jarnkrok had been reportedly making great strides in his recovery after undergoing surgery in November for a groin injury and sports hernia that had been nagging him since the preseason. The ailments led to the Swedish winger being placed on long-term injured reserve prior to the beginning of the 2024-25 regular season.

The 33-year-old has been one of the more useful two-way players in the Leafs’ lineup over his first two campaigns with the team. During the 2022-23 season, he potted 20 goals and 39 points in 73 games, posting three points in 11 playoff contests that spring. However, injuries hindered Jarkrok last year, leading to him playing a measly 52 games, the fewest he’s played in an entire season since he became an NHL regular in 2014-15.

Jarnkrok is in the third season of a four-year contract he signed with Toronto in July 2022. The deal carries a cap hit of $2.1 million through the 2025-26 campaign.

If he were to play on Monday, it would be the 700th game of Jarnkrok’s NHL career. Across 11 seasons, he has posted 136 goals and 165 assists for 301 points, including 22 points in 93 postseason appearances.

The Maple Leafs (37-20-2) are second in the Atlantic Division, one point behind the Florida Panthers for first. Toronto is set to take on the Pittsburgh Penguins on Sunday afternoon.
