USA’s Hilary Knight breaks IIHF Women’s Worlds all-time assists record

One of the greatest players in hockey etched her name into the record, again.
In the team’s group stage finale at the 2025 IIHF Women’s World Championship, United States captain Hilary Knight registered the 50th assist of her career in the tournament, breaking the all-time record for helpers.
Knight passed Team Canada legend and Hockey Hall of Famer Hayley Wickenheiser, who registered 49 across 13 world championships.
The record-breaking apple came on Tuesday against Switzerland. Knight had already picked up assists on both of Tessa Janecke’s goals in the first period. Then, Knight had the primary assist on defender Caroline Harvey’s goal, as the Wisconsin blueliner scored just before the buzzer sounded to end the second period.

— USA Hockey (@usahockey) April 15, 2025For Knight, it gave her six points on the tournament, placing her in a tie for the team lead in scoring with linemate Alex Carpenter. Knight’s performance came after a slow start in České Budějovice, by her standards, having just two goals and an assist through the team’s first three wins.
USA went on to win the game, 5-0.
Knight is now, statistically, the greatest offensive player in Women’s Worlds history. The 35-year-old had previously surpassed Wickenheiser for the most goals (67) and points (117) in tournament history.
This year’s tournament in Czechia marks Knight’s 15th appearance with the U.S. at the Women’s Worlds. Over that time, the Americans won nine gold medals and five silver medals. Knight’s finished with the most points four times, most recently in 2019. She was named the tournament’s best forward twice and put on the world championship All-Star team four times.
Knight was the first-ever recipient of the IIHF Female Player of the Year in 2023.
The Americans went undefeated, clinching the top spot in Group A for the second year in a row. They will be facing Germany in the quarterfinals on Thursday.
