The Vancouver Canucks‘ path to the 2025 Stanley Cup Playoffs will be a bit more difficult with two of its top forwards in Elias Pettersson and Nils Hoglander both sidelined for the remaining four games of its six-game road trip.

On Monday, Canucks head coach Rick Tocchet told reporters, “[Pettersson and Hoglander] went home today. They will be evaluated when we get back [to Vancouver] so they won’t be with us for the rest of the trip.”

Facing the New York Rangers on Saturday, both Pettersson and Hoglander exited with injuries and did not return. In all, Pettersson saw 7:50 in ice time, while Hoglander skated for just over seven minutes.

On the season, Pettersson has made 64 appearances with the Canucks in which he has recorded 15 goals and 30 assists for 45 points to rank second in team scoring behind captain Quinn Hughes. The Canucks’ fifth-overall selection from the 2017 NHL Draft, Pettersson is two years removed from a career-high 102-point finish that saw him post 39 goals and 63 assists in 80 games. Pettersson then followed up that performance with 89 points in 82 games a year ago.

Last January, the Canucks re-signed Pettersson to an eight-year contract extension that carries an $11.6-million annual average value as well as a no-movement clause that begins this coming July, per PuckPedia.

In all, through 471 career contests with the Canucks, Pettersson has notched 185 goals and 272 assists for 457 points.

For Hoglander, the 24-year-old Swedish-born forward has had a down year in 2024-25 following a 24-goal, 36-point outburst through 80 games a year ago. This season, through 66 contests, Hoglander has tallied six goals and 15 assists for 21 points. Originally chosen 40th overall by the Canucks in the 2019 NHL Draft, Hoglander has registered 56 goals and 55 assists for 111 points in 287 career games.

On the season, the Canucks stand 32-26-12 and five points back of the St. Louis Blues for the second wildcard seed in the Western Conference. The Canucks’ next game comes Monday against the New Jersey Devils.
