The most goals in an NHL career wasn’t the only record the GR8 broke this weekend.

On Sunday, Washington Capitals captain Alex Ovechkin scored the 895th goal of his NHL career, surpassing Hockey Hall of Famer Wayne Gretzky for the most all-time.

However, Ovechkin’s milestone marker also broke another record…in fashion.

According to Fanatics, the official retail supplier of the NHL, Ovechkin set a record for the largest sales of merchandise by a single player from the league in a single day.

The supplier released a special collection of celebratory memorabilia products, headwear, apparel and more immediately after Ovechkin beat New York Islanders goaltender Ilya Sorokin at UBS Arena. Select items were handed out to players on the ice and in the locker room as well.

Among the cool items that were created to celebrate the historic occasion, Fanatics created a “flash t-shirt” that features Ovi’s iconic diving celebration after scoring the record-breaking tally.

That day, Ovechkin was the top-selling athlete across all sports, as well as the Capitals were the No. 1 selling team across the site. Since then, seven of the top 10 most-purchased products on Fanatics have connected to the milestone.

Some of the big sellers across the site include an autographed puck, signed by Ovechkin, commemorating goal No. 895. Also, the locker-room t-shirt worn by Ovi and his teammates has been a hot buy, as well as the “All-Time Leading Goal Scorer” celebration t-shirt.

The goal itself was memorable. Ovechkin scoring from the left faceoff circle, on the power play, made it full circle for the future Hall of Famer’s career. The moment wasn’t just celebrated in hockey circles but in all of sports. A video was promptly released with former NHLers Mark Messier and Jeremy Roenick, along with longtime rival Sidney Crosby, congratulating the Russian superstar. Also, celebrities and other famous athletes like Michael Jordan, Roger Federer, Michael Phelps and longtime Wheel of Fortune host Pat Sajak gave shoutouts to the GR8.
