The Washington Capitals announced Monday that the club has signed goaltender Charlie Lindgren to a three-year extension that carries a $3-million annual average value.

Through 27 appearances with the Capitals this season, the 31-year-old native of Lakeville, Minn., has posted a 13-10-3 showing alongside an .898 save percentage, 2.66 goals-against average, and one shutout. Now in his third season with the Capitals, Lindgren closed out the 2023-24 campaign as the club’s primary starter, where in 50 games he went 25-16-7 with a .911 save percentage, 2.67 goals-against average, and tied for the league lead with six shutouts.

“Since joining our organization in 2022, Charlie has consistently demonstrated exceptional professionalism and reliability in net with his athleticism and drive,” Capitals general manager Chris Patrick said in a statement. “With both goalies under contract for the next three seasons, we expect this tandem to provide our club stability at a crucial position and push one another to compete and play at a high level.”

A veteran of 137 NHL games counting stops with the Montreal Canadiens, St. Louis Blues, and Capitals, Lindgren owns a 66-49-15 career record with a .907 save percentage, 2.77 goals-against average, and nine shutouts.

A graduate of the NCAA’s St. Cloud State Huskies, Lindgren originally signed with the Canadiens in 2016 as an undrafted free agent. Six years later, Lindgren joined the Capitals as an unrestricted free agent, agreeing to a three-year pact worth $1.1-million per season. Lindgren was set to become an unrestricted free agent in July.

Beyond the NHL, Lindgren has also seen success at the minor-league level, where across six seasons in the AHL he owns a 76-65-28 record coupled with a .903 save percentage, 2.75 goals-against average, and 11 shutouts.

Lindgren is the second goaltender to re-sign with the Capitals this season. In January, the club announced that it had inked starter Logan Thompson to a six-year extension worth $5.85 million per season.
