Hirose appeared in the Canucks' previous two games but has been assigned to Abbotsford (AHL) Thursday as Vancouver is in need of a forward after Andrei Kuzmenko (undisclosed) was pronounced out. The 24-year-old defensemen returns to the AHL, where he failed to pick up a point in 11 games prior to his promotion.
Hirose has been held without a point with the Abbotsford Canucks of the AHL in 11 games this season. He will likely draw back into the lineup for Vancouver to play his third NHL game of the season as Carson Soucy is day-to-day with a foot injury.
Hirose will return to Abbotsford of the AHL after playing two games for the Canucks, recording zero points, four blocks, and three hits. Mark Friedman will replace Hirose on the backend after being acquired yesterday via trade from the Pittsburgh Penguins.
Hirose had four goals, 23 assists, 18 PIMs and a +10 plus/minus through 38 games with Minnesota State University (NCAA) and has signed a one-year, entry-level contract which will begin right away. The 23-year-old will become a restricted free-agent at the end of the season.
