The Panthers have signed Alexander Wennebrg to a one-year deal worth $2.25 million.

Wennberg was bought out by the Blue Jackets yesterday but signed a one-year "show me" deal with the Panthers. In Florida, Wennberg has a perfect opportunity to serve as their second line centre and get back to his point producing ways. He has not topped 30 points in two straight seasons but registered a career-high 59 points (13G / 46A) in 2017.

The Blue Jackets have placed Alexander Wennberg on unconditional waivers for the purpose of a buyout.

Wennberg had three years left on a six-year deal that carried a $4.9M AAV cap hit. The former No.14 overall pick (2013) had struggled since posting 59 points in 2017, averaging just five goals and 22 assists (27 points) over the last three seasons. Still, he has enough skill to be a No.2 centre for a team in need and a good enough two-way game to be a third line centre for a team with better depth.

Wennberg is expected to miss 3-to-4 weeks with an upper-body injury.

Wennberg was hurt Sunday in Montreal and will miss at least three weeks. Ryan MacInnis was recalled from Cleveland (AHL) on Monday and will take Wennberg's spot in the lineup vs. the Panthers. Wennberg had just started to heat up over the last month and a half, picking up 10 points (3G / 7A) in his last 17 games.

Wennberg (back) will return to the Blue Jackets lineup on Thursday.

Wennberg has missed the last eight games with a back injury but will be back in the lineup tonight in Buffalo. Wennberg will assume a familiar role tonight as he starts at centre with Boone Jenner and Nick Foligno on his wings. After a breakout 2016-17 season, Wennberg has struggled this season and comes into tonight with just four goals and 12 assists (16 points) in 30 games. He will look to have a better second half, starting tonight.

Wennberg (back) practiced with his teammates on Wednesday.

Wennberg has missed the last eight games with a back injury and returned to practice this afternoon after skating on his own on Saturday. Wennberg is two weeks into a 4-6 week timetable, so it looks like he could be ahead of schedule.

Wennberg is expected to miss 4-6 weeks with a back injury.

Wennberg suffered the injury last Thursday in Pittsburgh and after being scratched from Saturday’s game vs. the Flyers, the Blue Jackets announced that he is expected to miss at least one month. Wennberg was placed on IR and Lukas Sedlak will likely move up to the third line while Wennberg is out.
