Ben Maxwell News

#NHLDucks C Ben Maxwell skating with Devante Smith-Pelly & Niklas Hagman in drills so far in this morning's practice.

Maxwell moves up to the third line after making his Ducks debut on the fourth. His two points through 37 NHL games indicate a limited offensive upside.

It looks like Ben Maxwell will slide into Jim Slater's spot on the #winnipegjets checking line.

Maxwell centered a scoring line in the team's last tilt but is demoted to the fourth line with Slater out. Through 33 career games, the pivot has one NHL goal.

Ben Maxwell will make his regular season debut tonight. He will play centre between Scheifele and Kane.

With one goal and two points over 32 NHL games, Maxwell has not contributed offensively at the NHL level. Playing between two highly-touted former first rounders could change that starting tonight.

Jets forward Ben Maxwell, who was out for the last two weeks with an undisclosed injury, was back at practice on Tuesday and took some turns on Mark Scheifele’s line

Maxwell's return could spell the end of Scheifele’s stint with the big club. Over 32 career NHL games, the former 2nd round pick only registered a goal and an assist. Expect him to play a checking line role with the team upon his return.

On a team looking for possible players to contribute to a third-line scoring line, the fourth-year pro is among the candidates trying to lay claim to the job. The Vancouver product has produced at the AHL level (scoring 22 goals as a rookie in 2008-09) and has the versatility to be able to play both centre and wing.

Maxwell scored his first NHL goal last season in his 12-game tryout for the Thrashers. If he makes the team, he will face tough competition for playing time on the bottom two lines.
