Blake Geoffrion News

Montreal Canadiens forward Blake Geoffrion has informed the club that he plans to retire from professional hockey.

Geoffrion suffered a skull fracture and a concussion after taking a hit from Syracuse Crunch defenceman Jean-Philippe Cote during an AHL game in November. Geoffrion was a second round selection of the Nashville Predators, 56th overall, at the 2006 NHL Entry Draft before being traded to the Canadiens in exchange for Hal Gill on Feb. 25, 2012. He has four goals and two assists through 10 games this season with the Bulldogs, and has registered eight goals and five assists with a plus- 3 rating through 55 career NHL games played.

Forward Blake Geoffrion suffered a skull fracture during an American Hockey League game at Montreal's Bell Centre on Nov. 9.

There is uncertainty surrounding whether or not Geoffrion will ever be able to suit up again after this serious head injury. Keep an eye on the prospect for hopes that he makes a full recovery.

Trotz said forward Blake Geoffrion (upper body) could be cleared to play today. But that doesn’t necessarily mean Geoffrion will return to the Predators’ lineup. Trotz said he was leaning toward sending Geoffrion to Milwaukee to get more playing time. Geoffrion was averaging just 10:24 per game before he suffered his injury on Nov. 28.

Geoffrion will need a bit more of seasoning as he is having a bit of a sophomore slump. The legacy player has two assists through 19 games.

Geoffrion cut (literally): Forward Blake Geoffrion’s wrist was wrapped up in the Predators’ practice facility at Centennial Sportsplex today. Nashville Coach Barry Trotz said it was stepped on by a skate blade last night during Nashville’s 4-3 second game loss to Florida.

No official word on how much time he will miss. The center scored six goals and eight points in 20 games last season. In his first full season, he is expected to carry more of the offensive load.
