The Capitals have recalled Casey Wellman from Hershey (AHL).

Wellman will be in Washington by game-time and is expected to play tonight. Expect Wellman to centre the Capitals second line with Dustin Penner and Troy Brouwer on his wings. Wellman has two goals and one assist in 10 games with the Capitals this season.

The Washington Capitals have recalled center Casey Wellman from the Hershey Bears (AHL).

Wellman, 26, has appeared in 23 games for the Bears this season, registering 13 points (seven goals, six assists) and four penalty minutes. The 6’0”, 183-pound center recorded a hat trick against Charlotte on Nov. 14 and ranks tied for first among Hershey skaters in goals (7) and third on the team in points (13).

Forwards Matt Kassian, Jed Ortmeyer, Chad Rau and defenseman Nate Prosser are coming up from Houston for the Wild, and forwards Casey Wellman and David McIntyre are headed back to the Aeros today.

Wellman was playing on the second line and second PP unit. He has two goals and seven points in 14 games.

Certainly a good sign that these three are travelling. Wellman has been sidelined with a wrist injury since December 13th. The Brentwood, California native has two goals and four points through seven games.

According to sources, Casey Wellman suffered a wrist injury Tuesday when he was slashed in Winnipeg. During warmups Wednesday, he tried to grip his stick and was unable to. He was pulled from the lineup, which was the reason he didn’t play against Chicago.

Wellman is the latest Wild forward to go down with an injury. The Brentwood, California native scored two goals and four points through seven games after tearing up the AHL.
