Chris Phillips News

Phillips will undergo back surgery on Tuesday and miss the rest of the season.

Phillips has been sidelined since February 5th and will undergo back surgery on Tuesday. He is expected to be ready for training camp. The 37-year-old blue liner appeared in just 36 games this season and enters what could possibly be the final year of his career. He will be in the final year of a two-year, $5 million contract.

Phillips (lower-body) will not play on Saturday.

Phillips will miss his second straight game with a lower-body injury that he suffered on Tuesday vs. the Red Wings. Phillips is a big minute-eater for the Senators (23:14 AVG TOI), so with him out of the lineup players like Mark Borowiecki and Jared Cowen need to step up.

Phillips (lower-body) will not play on Thursday.

Phillips left Tuesday’s game with a lower-body injury and did not return. He was not on the ice yesterday and it was classified as a maintenance day, but he was obviously still being hampered by the lower-body injury and will be replaced by Mark Borowiecki.

The Senators have re-signed Chris Phillips to a two-year, $5M deal.

Phillips was the first overall pick in the 1996 NHL Entry Draft and he has spent his entire 16-year NHL career with the Senators. At 35-years-old he is not the defenseman he used to be, but is a good leader and serviceable NHL defenseman. There was interest from other teams, but this deal gives him a no-trade clause and keeps him in Ottawa for another two seasons. He has one goal, 12 assists and a minus-5 rating in 52 games with the Senators this season.
