Christian Djoos News
Djoos, who was originally a seventh-round pick of the Capitals in 2012, has appeared in 119 career NHL games with Washington and Anaheim. Djoos is a modern-day NHL defenseman, who is mobile and a solid puck-mover from the back-end. He has 27 points (5G / 22A) in his brief NHL career thus far and will likely be the seventh defenseman in Detroit.
Djoos opened the 2020 campaign with the Hershey Bears (AHL) where he had 32 points (5G / 27A) in 42 games. In late-February he was dealt to the Ducks for Daniel Sprong and he registered one goal and two assists while playing 21:22 ATOI in nine games with the Ducks before the season was paused.
Djoos was becoming a regular with the Capitals in 2019 before a thigh procedure cost him a few months and he never got back into the rotation. Djoos has spent most of the 2020 season in Hershey, where he led all Bears defensemen with 32 points (5G / 27A) in 42 games. He'll report to San Diego (AHL).
Djoos appeared in his first two games of the season over the weekend but it looks like he'll come out of the lineup on Tuesday. He may have been a healthy scratch regardless with Michal Kempny likely returning but Djoos is now day-to-day with an upper-body injury that he suffered midway through Saturday's game in Carolina.
Both Radko Gudas and Michal Kempny reportedly sick and game-time decisions, Djoos could make his season debut on Friday. The 25-year-old blueliner has scored three goals with 15 assists (18 points) in 25 AHL games this season.
Djoos missed a lot of time in 2019 due to a thigh injury that required surgery. The 24-year-old ended up finishing the season with 10 points (1G / 9A) in 45 games. Djoos will likely battle with Jonas Siegenthaler for the No.6 defenseman spot to open the 2020 season.
Djoos’ injury is more severe than the Capitals originally believed. Djoos was initially listed as day-to-day with a lower-body injury but underwent a procedure on Thursday and will miss an extended period of time. Jonas Siegenthaler will likely draw in on Friday.
Djoos has 14 points (3G / 11A), a plus-11 rating while averaging 14:10 TOI/GM in 54 games this season, but tonight he will be replaced by the recently acquired Jakub Jerabek tonight vs. the Senators.
