Schueneman is an undrafted 29-year-old defenseman with 31 games of NHL experience but has not played since a seven-game stint with the Montreal Canadiens in the 2022-23 season. Predominantly an AHL player, Schueneman has five points (1G / 4A) in 13 games with the Springfield Thunderbirds (AHL) this season. In a corresponding move, the Blues have reassigned Leo Loof to Springfield.
Schueneman spent the entire 2024 season with the Colorado Eagles (AHL), scoring four goals with 18 assists (22 points) in 64 games. Expect him to report to Springfield (AHL) to start the 2025 season.
Schueneman will provide the Avalanche with some depth on their blue-line ahead of a three-game road trip, though there's no indication he will draw into the lineup at this point. The 28-year-old blue-liner registered one assist in seven games with the Canadiens last season.

Schueneman played in two straight games for the Canadiens, failing to record a point with a plus-2 rating in 14:36 ATOI. He returns to the AHL, where he's posted 21 points (5G / 16A) in 59 games.
Schueneman had five goals, 16 assists, 18 PIMs and a +8 plus/minus through 58 games with the Laval Rocket (AHL) and has been called up to Montreal Monday with expectations to play Tuesday. The 27-year-old will replace Jordan Harris (undisclosed) and has one assist in four games with Montreal this season.
Schueneman split his 2022 season between the AHL and NHL, registering six points (2G / 4A) in 24 games with Montreal. Schueneman takes Mike Matheson's spot on the roster after Matheson was placed on IR.

Schueneman was likely to come out fo the lineup on Sunday anyways with Ben Chiarot expected to be back but now he definitely will not be available.
