The Red Wings have reassigned Cory Emmerton to Grand Rapids (AHL).

Emmerton skated in seven games during his call-up. he hast six shots and a minus-1 rating. He will go back to the AHL with Mitch Callahan being recalled and Todd Bertuzzi set to return to the lineup.

Detroit lost another centreman when Joakim Andersson broke his foot in Sunday's loss to the Rangers, so Emmerton has been recalled to centre the fourth line while Andersson sits for the next 2-3 weeks. Emmerton has two assists in 11 games with the Red Wings this season. While with the Griffins, he has totaled 14 goals and 21 assists (35 points) in 43 games.

Emmerton had one assist in five games during his most recent call-up. The Red Wings obviously feel they can get more out of Luke Glendening as their fourth line centre, as he was recalled with Emmerton going down.

Emmerton not in because of coach's decision, not because he got dinged in Boston. Says he feels good enough to play.

Emmerton took a knee on knee hit from Dennis Seidenberg yesterday and is likely day-to-day. The fourth line center has a goal and an assist in his rookie season.

Emmerton might have made the team anyway, but Mursak's injury probably assures him of a spot.

In his third full AHL season, Emmerton scored 12 goals and 38 points. The former second round pick should make the team out of camp and provide some energy to a bottom line.

Emmerton, 23, must earn a spot on the Red Wings roster in the preseason or he will be waived and likely claimed by another organization. He has the inside track because he has paid his dues in the system, but there are no guarantees.
