Hunt signed a one-year, two-way contract with the Flames in the offseason and will make his Calgary debut Tuesday as he replaces A.J. Greer in the lineup vs. the New York Rangers. The 27-year-old is entering his seventh NHL season with his sixth different team and has 15 goals and 43 points in 202 career games played. He is expected to draw into the Flames' fourth line for his debut.
The 2023 season was a whirlwind for Hunt. He started the season with the Rangers, was claimed off of waivers by the Avalanche, traded to the Maple Leafs and then traded to the Flames. Hunt will miss at least one week after being moved to IR on Friday. With Hunt and Julien Gauthier (COVID-19 protocol) out, the Rangers have recalled Jonny Brodzinski and Tim Gettinger from the taxi squad.
Hunt missed Friday's practice due to an upper-body injury and is questionable to play Saturday in Anaheim. If Hunt is not available vs. the Ducks, the Rangers will likely need to call someone up from their taxi squad to replace him.
