The Red Wings will give their 34-year-old captain the night off tonight in Carolina. With the playoffs locked up the Wings have earned the luxury to rest their important players. Zetterberg finishes the season with 17 goals and 49 assists (66 points) in 77 games this season.

Zetterberg has missed the last four games with a head injury, but it looks like he will be back in the lineup tonight vs. the Rangers. He need to be cleared by doctors this afternoon, buts far, all signs point towards him playing. Zetterberg will centre Justin Abdelkader and newcomer Erik Cole, if he plays. Zetterberg joined his teammates on the ice late in the Red Wings morning skate, but was just taking things easy. However, it was a great sign that he was on the ice just five days after suffering a head injury. He will not play on Thursday or Saturday, but he has nearly one week to practice and get ready for the Rangers next Wednesday.
Zetterberg is reportedly dealing with headaches, but the Red Wings will not call it a concussion at this time. He will miss his second straight game and Mike Babcock did not announce a timetable for Zetty’s return.
Zetterberg was listed as doubtful for tonight’s game because of a head injury. He was ruled out by coach Mike Babcock when the time arrived at the rink. With Zetty out, Joakim Andersson will enter the lineup. Consider Zetterberg day-to-day, but it seems unlikely that he will be available tomorrow either.
The Red Wings did not have a morning skate on Monday, but their GM called Zetterberg doubtful because of a “head” injury that he suffered on Saturday vs. the Stars. Zetty took a couple of blows to the head from Jamie Benn, so the immediate concern is that the Red Wings captain suffered a concussion. Doubtful doesn’t necessarily mean that he won’t play tonight, so monitor his status during pre-game warmups.
Zetterberg played just 11:24 before retiring to the locker room with an upper-body injury. There was no word on how serious the injury is, but the Red Wings will keep their fingers crossed that they don’t lose their captain for an extended period of time. The Wings went on to win 7-6 in OT without Zetty.
Zetterberg is a much needed boost to the Wings' lackluster offense so far this series but hasn't played since suffering a herniated disk at the Olympic break.
The Wings' captain would be a much appreciated addition if he could make a return but ultimately still needs to be cleared by team doctors. Zetterberg did practice today.
Zetterberg will not play when the first-round series against the Presidents' Trophy-winning Boston Bruins begins Friday, nor will he be available for Game 2 on Easter Sunday. That much already has been determined, general manager Ken Holland said. Zetterberg, even provided that he has no setbacks, isn't likely to be available until the second round.
Zetterberg had back surgery on February 21. While skating is a positive sign in Zetty's return to the ice, the Red Wings are still unsure when he will be back. At the time of surgery, the original timetable was eight weeks, which would see him return around game 4 of the first-round. They will not be able to pinpoint a date until Zetterberg is able to push himself in full team practices.
