The Ducks have assigned Ilya Bryzgalov to Norfolk (AHL).

Bryzgalov struggled big time with the Ducks, going 1-4-1 with a 4.19 GAA and .847 SV% in eight games. He heads to Norfolk where he went 1-1-0 with a 2.53 GAA and .915 SV% with during a conditioning stint earlier in the season.

With John Gibson winning three of five during his call-up and Frederik Andersen set to return from injury, the Ducks have placed Bryzgalov on waivers in order to activate Andersen from IR. Having gone 1-4-1 with a 4.19 GAA and .847 SV%, we might have seen the last of Bryzgalov in the NHL.

Bryzgalov allowed two goals on 34 shots in the Ducks loss in Washington on Friday. With Frederik Andersen out, Bryzgalov will start tonight. He comes into play with a 1-3-1 record, 3.95 GAA and .859 SV% this season. He has been especially bad on the road, going 0-2-1 with a 5.23 GAA and .837 SV%.

He has had a lot of practice time since that start, so look for a sharper Ilya Bryzgalov tonight. However, he draws a tough matchup with the Rangers in town.

It is a strange time to give Bryz a start considering the Ducks are off until Sunday after tonight, but either way it looks like he will face a Rangers team who have won 10 of their last 11.

Bryzgalov allowed two goals on seven shots in relief of Frederik Andersen on Tuesday. He will get his first start for the Ducks this season snapping Andersen’s streak of 20 straight starts. He has a solid matchup in Ottawa.

Bryzgalov went 1-1-0 with a 2.53 GAA and .915 SV% in his two game conditioning stint with Norfolk. With Bryzgalov being recalled, Jason LaBarbera has been placed on waivers. Bryzgalov could make his season debut on Tuesday in Toronto.

Bryzgalov was originally drafted by the Ducks back in 2000. He spent six an a half years in Anaheim before moving on to Phoenix, Phildelphia, Edmonton and Minnesota. Last year he went 12-9-8 with a 2.68 GAA and .909 SV%. He has been brought in because John Gibson is on IR likely until Christmas and Jason LaBarbera will miss 2-3 weeks with a broken bone in his hand.

Bryzgalov was brought in on a tryout when Darcy Kuemper was unsigned and Josh Harding was hurt. Now that Kuemper has signed, the Wild will enter the season with a goaltending tandem of Kuemper and Niklas Backstrom.

The WIld and goaltender Ilya Bryzgalov have agreed on a pro tryout.

Josh Harding broke his foot on Wednesday and Darcy Kuemper remains unsigned so the WIld will bring Bryzgalov into training camp and give him a look after he went unsigned in free agency. Bryzgalov went 7-1-3 in 12 regular-season games last season with a 2.11 goals-against average. In the playoffs, he was 3-6 with a 2.63 GAA.

Bryzgalov allowed two goals on 28 shots in the 2-1 loss in game 5. The series now moves back to Minnesota for game 6, and the Wild have yet to lose on home ice in the playoffs. Bryzgalov has stopped 37 of 39 shots (.949 SV%) in his only two starts at Xcel Energy Center this postseason. He is expected to have Darcy Kuemper as his back-up tonight.
