Ilya Bryzgalov News

Bryzgalov starts for the Oilers.

Bryzgalov allowed one goal on 29 shots before being concussed on December 1 vs. the Stars. After missing the last six games, Bryz returns to the cage tonight, but has a tough matchup on the road against the team who drafted him 44th overall in 2000.

The Oilers have activated Ilya Bryzgalov from IR.

Bryzgalov has been out since December 1 with a concussion. This is good timing for Bryzgalov who will likely slide into the number-1 role with Devan Dubnyk really struggling again. Bryz is 1-1-0 with a 2.11 GAA and .939 SV% in two and a half starts.

The Oilers have placed Ilya Bryzgalov on injured reserve.

Bryzgalov was injured when he was run over in Sunday’s shootout win in Dallas. His placement on IR makes him unavailable for the next two games. Bryzgalov, who’d been pretty solid since joining the Oilers, posting a 2.11 GAA and .939 save percentage in parts of four games, is wrestling with concussion and whiplash symptoms that the Oilers were hoping would quickly clear on their own. They’re not, so he’s on the shelf for a while.

Bryzgalov is dealing with concussion/whiplash symptoms.

Bryzgalov is not able to dress tonight, so the recently recalled Jason LaBarbera will serve as Devan Dubnyk's backup tonight. Bryzgalov is being treated for a concussion so there is no timetable for his return. "He took a wicked blow there," said head coach Dallas Eakins, who also added he did not think there was any intent to make contact with Bryzgalov.

The extent of Bryzgalov's upper-body injury still to be determined, says Coach Dallas Eakins.

Bryzgalov left Sunday's contest 16:19 into the second period after being bowled over by a Stars forward. He had a solid game going stopping 28 of 29 shots before departing the ice. There is always the fear of a concussion when you see a collision like this, but we await an official word from the Oilers after he is re-evaluated.

Bryzgalov will be between the pipes for the Oilers.

In his first start as an Oiler he was great, but the second outing did not go so well. He gave up four goals on 23 shots and was pulled in a loss to the Blue Jackets. Tonight he faces a tough Stars team, but on Sunday you either need goalie numbers or you don't, so act accordingly.

Bryzgalov gets his second start in as many nights.

Bryzgalov stopped all 33 shots that he faced to record the shutout in his first start as an Oiler. It was a tremendous first start for the eccentric Russian netminder, and the Oilers will turn to him again tonight vs. Columbus. It is another good matchup for him and should be able to record his second win.

Bryzgalov starts Thursday vs. Nashville.

Bryzgalov replaced a struggling Devan Dubnyk in Monday's loss to the Blackhawks. He played well allowed just one goal on 13 shots in his Oilers debut. His first start as an Oiler will come on Wednesday vs. the Predators. If Bryz can find his old game, he could climb to the top of the Oilers goalie depth chart and become a solid number-2 fantasy starter behind a high-octane offence, but suspect defence.

The Edmonton Oilers have recalled Ilya Bryzgalov from Oklahoma City (AHL).

After signing with the Oilers last weekend, Bryzgalov went to Oklahoma City for two starts. He went 1-1-0 with a 3.03 GAA and .880 SV%. With the Oilers struggling, Bryz is a risky fantasy netminder, but if he can find his game he could solidify the Oilers goaltending trouble. He could make his Oilers debut on Tuesday vs. Columbus.

Bryzgalov will start with Oklahoma City in the AHL. The Barons play at home Tuesday, Friday and Saturday.

“I am leaving in the morning. I think it’s going to be one week to get myself in good shape to go to Edmonton. I must play a couple games. If I’m not playing any games, I wouldn’t know what things to work on. Only the games show that.” Bryzgalov says he hasn’t stopped a shot since he spent a couple weeks training with the ECHL team in Las Vegas.

Bryzgalov will likely go to Oklahoma City for some conditioning because he hasn’t played a single game this year after the Flyers bought him out of his nine-year, $51-million contract two years in.

Devan Dubnyk is still the incumbent, but Bryzgalov will push him. Dubnyk’s stats are well below last year’s very solid numbers — .920 SV% and 2.57 GAA. Bryzgalov could share goaltending duties the rest of the way, with both contracts ending after the season. “He’s had a high level of play in the past (with the Phoenix Coyotes). I believe he’ll be highly motivated on a short contract. Just salary, no bonuses,” said Oilers GM Craig MacTavish. Jason LaBarbera will stay with Edmonton, for now, as Dubnyk’s backup. Bryzgalov will likely need several games with the Barons to get up to speed.

Ilya Bryzgalov
The Oilers have reached a verbal agreement on a one-year contract with Ilya Bryzgalov, pending completion of today's Edmonton-Calgary trade.

Bryzgalov struggled to a 19-17-3 record with a 2.79 GAA and .900 SV% with the Flyers last season. His time in Philadelphia was disappointing, but prior to becoming a Flyer he was very successful in Phoenix. He went 130-93-27 with a 2.54 GAA and .917 SV% in four seasons with the Coyotes. Bryz comes to the Oilers with an eccentric personality. However they were a team desperate for help in the crease so all they need him to do is stop the puck. Edmonton has a lot of offensive fire power, but lack defence which could limit Bryzgalov's value. The majority of owners should have one player they can drop to take a flier on the 33-year-old Russian netminder.

Bryz in goal, not Mason. Mason first one off and Bryz not here.

It was originally reported that Steve Mason was going to get the start but it will actually be Ilya Bryzgalov. It is a good thing the Flyers updated that quickly instead of waiting. This will be Bryzgalov's first start since April 18th when he lost to the Devils. He'll take on the Islanders that are starting their backup Kevin Poulin, so Bryz could get a W tonight.

Ilya Bryzgalov
Thinking Bryzgalov, but nothing locked in yet.

This is simply a reporters guess, but it makes sense since Bryz hasn't started since April 18th. The Flyers had a playoff team on paper but some injuries and bad play derailed their season. This will be Bryzgalov's third start vs. the B's this season. He is 1-1-0 with a 2.00 GAA and .935 SV% in the two previous meetings. He is a disappointing 18-17-3 accompanied by a 2.84 GAA and .894 SV% in 2013, so it will be tough to trust him at this time of the season.

Bryzgalov first goalie off the ice. No surprise there that he's starting tonight vs. Senators

Bryzgalov was given a night off after playing 22 straight games. He will go tonight against a Senators who are slipping out of the playoffs. Bryz is 1-0-0 with a 1.00 GAA and .971 SV% in his only start vs. the Sens this year.

Bryz will probably start Thurs., Homer said.

Bryzgalov was given a rare day off yesterday. It would make sense if the Flyers go back to him after he started 22 games in a row before yesterday. Bryz has won four of his last five but his last start was an ugly loss to Winnipeg in which he allowed four goals on 16 shots.
