Halak starts Thursday vs. the Capitals.

Halak has missed the last five games with an upper-body injury, but will return to the crease tonight against Washington. Halak and Thomas Greiss have formed a strong goaltending tandem for the Islanders this season and they will need him to be good tonight with the Capitals in town. Halak is 7-3-0 with a 2.22 GAA and .915 SV% on home ice.

Halak has been out of the lineup since December 21st but was activated from IR on Tuesday. Halak is 10-6-3 with a 2.09 GAA and .923 SV% in 20 games this season. His activation from IR suggests that he could start on Thursday.

Louis Domingue shut the door on the Isles offence and Halak suffered his second straight loss. Halak is now 3-2-1 with a 2.25 GAA and .924 SV% in December and he should make for a strong start tonight vs. a Ducks teams that ranks last in the NHL in scoring.

Halak allowed four goals on 16 shots in the Islanders loss to the Panthers on Tuesday. Halak has gone 3-1-1 with a2.48 GAA and .916 SV% in December. Tonight will be Halak’s second start against the Coyotes this season—he stopped 31 of 33 in a 5-2 win over Arizona on November 16th.

It was an impressive outing for the Isles’ netminder who has won two of three while allowing a combined seven goals on 109 shots (.936 SV%). He is a must-start tonight vs. the struggling Blue Jackets and their backup netminder.

Halak surrendered three goals on 29 shots in the Islanders 3-2 overtime loss in Ottawa on Saturday. Halak has gone 3-1-2 with a 2.16 GAA and .921 SV% in his last six starts and will be making his second start of the season vs. the Flyers. Their first meeting was during that six-game stretch, he stopped 17 of 18 shots in a 3-1 win. However, the Flyers come in with more confidence this time, having won four of five.

Halak allowed two goals on 27 shots in the Islanders loss in Florida last Friday. Thomas Greiss started the last two games, but it will be Halak tonight vs. the Rangers. While New York’s 17-6-2 record looks intimidating, they are actually not that great offensively. They’re a terrible possession team and rank 26th in the NHL in shots per game (27.7), so Halak should make for a solid start tonight.

Halak stopped 17 of 18 shots in the Islanders win over the Flyers on Wednesday. Philadelphia is one of the best matchups going right now, so it wasn’t surprising to see Halak come away with his sixth win of the year. Halak has gone 3-3-0 with a 2.24 GAA and .911 SV% in seven starts this month.

He will be in tough tonight when he takes on his former team in Montreal—the Habs are second in the NHL in scoring, averaging 3.64 goals per game.
