Halak stopped all 29 shots that he faced in the Islanders’ shutout win over the Flames on Monday. Halak missed Wednesday’s game because of an illness but he will be back in the cage this afternoon vs. the Devils. Halak comes in with an impressive 1.77 GAA and .940 SV% in four starts.
Halak was scratched from Thursday’s game because of an illness but he was back at practice this afternoon, which suggests that Halak could be ready to start on Saturday vs. the Devils. If not, look for Thomas Greiss to go again.
Halak will not serve as Thomas Greiss’ backup tonight because he is feeling “under the weather.” Halak is day-to-day, look for him to start one of the Islanders game on either Saturday or Sunday.
Halak allowed four goals on 25 shots in the Islanders loss to the Bruins on Friday. It was Halak’s first loss of the season, but he has been really good to start the season, posting a 2.36 GAA and .920 SV% in three starts. He was given Saturday night off, but will be back in goal tonight vs. a struggling Flames team.
Halak stopped all 37 shots that he faced in the Islanders shutout win over the Blue Jackets on Tuesday. Halak has won each of his first two starts while stopping 59 of 62 shots (.952 SV%) and will make his third consecutive start tonight. He will take on a Boston team who has allowed a tonne of goals while averaging a league-high 3.67 goals per game.
Halak allowed three goals on 25 shots in the Islanders win over the Sharks in his season debut. Halak will make his second straight start tonight against a struggling Blue Jackets team in Columbus. A season ago, Halak was 16-7-2 with a 2.39 GAA and .913 SV% on the road.
Halak has missed the first five games of the season with an upper-body injury, but he is ready to return to the crease tonight vs. the Sharks. Halak is coming off of the best season of his career—he was 38-17-4 with a 2.43 GAA and .914 SV% in 2014-15. He draws a tough matchup right out of the gate as he faces the undefeated San Jose Sharks.
It looks like Halak is nearing a return to the Islanders’ crease. He re-join practice on Wednesday and took part in this morning’s gameday skate, both are good signs he’ll be back soon. Thomas Greiss will start tonight, but monitor Halak’s status leading up to Saturday’s game vs. San Jose.
To this point in the season, Halak has only been skating on his own before practice, but on Wednesday he finally joined his teammates. Halak has sat out the first three games of the season, but returning to practice is a good sign that he is nearing a return. Thomas Greiss will continue to start until Halak is cleared to play.
Halak still has not joined the Islanders for practice and remains day-to-day. Halak continues to skate with the goalie coaches, but there is no timetable for his return at this point. Thomas Greiss will continue to shoulder the load while Halak is out.
Halak has been battling an upper-body injury since the preseason and there was some speculation that he might miss a few games and it looks like that will be the case as Thomas Greiss gets the call in tonight’s season opener. The Islanders play again tomorrow so there is a good chance Halak won’t be available for that game either.
Halak practiced on Thursday, but said “hopefully, I’ll be back soon,” after practice which doesn’t sound like he will be available for Friday or Saturday’s games (both vs. Chicago). If he doesn’t play over the weekend, Thomas Greiss could start back-to-back and then Halak’s next chance to return would be Monday against the Jets.

Head coach Jack Capuano said “we don’t know yet” when he was asked if Halak would be ready for next Friday’s season opener. Thomas Greiss would start the game against the Blackhawks should Halak not be ready.
Halak is going to be held off of the ice for a few days but should be ready for the season opener. The Islanders open the season with a back-to-back, so he probably wasn’t going to play both games on opening weekend anyways.
Halak stopped 38 of 39 shots in the Islanders 3-1 win in Game 6. The win forces Game 7, which, is there anything better than a Game 7? Halak has posted a 2.34 GAA and .926 SV% in the first six games of the series. Halak has struggled in three games in Washington—he is 1-2 with a 3.58 GAA and .895 SV% in three starts at Verizon Center.
Halak was pulled after he allowed five goals on 35 shots in the Islanders 5-1 loss in Game 5. He has a 2.61 GAA and .913 SV% in the series and will have to be great tonight for the Islanders to avoid elimination. He stopped 52 of 55 shots (.945 SV%) in the Games 3 and 4 at home.
Halak allowed two goals on 30 shots in the Islanders 2-1 OT loss to the Capitals in Game 4. Halak has enjoyed a nice series, having posted a 1.92 GAA and .930 SV% so far, but the series is all tied up at 2-2. It becomes a best of 3 series, starting in Washington tonight. Halak had a .917 SV% in the first two games in Washington.
Halak made 24 saves on 25 shots in the Islanders 2-1 OT win over the Capitals in Game 3. New York has played extremely well through three games and will look to take a huge 3-1 lead in the series with a win at home tonight. Halak comes in with a 2.01 GAA and .929 SV% so far.
Halak gave up four goals on 35 shots in the Islanders 4-3 loss to he Capitals in Game 2. He allowed a total of five goals on 60 shots (.917 SV%) in in the first two games of the series. Now the series shifts home for the Islanders, where they will look to get a leg up this afternoon.
