Jay Harrison News

The Blackhawks have acquired Jay Harrison, Andrew Ladd and Matt Fraser from the Jets for Marko Dano, a 2016 1st round pick and a conditional draft pick.

Harrison, 33, will be an unrestricted free agent at the end of the season and was acquired for salary cap purposes. The veteran defenseman has not appeared in an NHL game this season, but has 75 points (23G / 52A) in 372 career games. He has five points (3G / 2A) in 18 games with Manitoba (AHL) this year.

Harrison has cleared waivers and the Jets have assigned him to Manitoba (AHL).

Harrison had five points (2G / 3A) in 35 games with the Jets after being acquired from the Hurricanes last season. The 32-year-old will head back to the AHL for the first time since 2009-10 when he played 32 games with Albany.

Harrison not on the ice for the morning skate; but expected to make his Jets debut tonight.

Harrison was acquired from the Hurricanes on Thursday and as long as he arrives in Winnipeg in time, he is expected to make his Jets debut tonight vs. the Bruins. He should play a much larger role in Winnipeg than he did in Carolina.

The Jets have acquired Jay Harrison from the Hurricanes in exchange for a sixth-round pick.

The Jets are without Zach Bogosian, Tobias Enstrom, Mark Stuart and Jacob Trouba for the next little while, so they have gone out and addressed a huge need on the back-end. Harrison, 32, has one goal and three assists in 20 games with the Hurricanes this season. He has totalled 21 goals and 49 assists (70 points) in 337 career NHL games with the Hurricanes and Maple Leafs organizations.

Harrison (lower-body) will return to the Hurricanes lineup on Thursday.

Harrison will replace John-Michael Liles on the Hurricanes blue line after missing the last three games with a lower-body injury. He has one goal and two assists in 13 games this season. He should be featured on the ‘Canes second power-play unit with Liles out.

Injuries sideline Hurricanes’ Semin, Harrison vs. Bruins

The Carolina Hurricanes have been playing better as their general health has improved, but they’ll be missing some pieces against the Boston Bruins this afternoon. Alexander Semin and Jay Harrison can’t play against Boston, according to Michael Smith of the team website. Semin, 30, is dealing with an upper-body injury. It’s been a rough season for the Russian winger, although he was showing signs of improvement with a recent three-game assist streak. He’s often been labeled “injury prone,” so there’s the concern that this could be an issue that lingers. Harrison, 32, is averaging 18:08 minutes per game this season, up from 16:38 per contest in 2013-14. He has three points in 13 games in 2014-15. One positive note: rising young forward Elias Lindholm will be able to play, according to Smith. There was some concern that the 19-year-old might miss today’s action with a foot issue.

Harrison is taking warmups, but not line rushes, so he will not be in the lineup vs. the Predators.

Despite being activated from IR this afternoon, Harrison will not dress tonight. Having won three straight games, there is no reason for head coach Kirk Muller to shake up his D-pairings. The Hurricanes are in Buffalo on Tuesday, Harrison could return to the lineup then.

Harrison (concussion) has been activated from IR.

Harrison has missed the last six games with a concussion that he suffered on December 21. He is expected to slide back onto the Hurricanes blueline tonight vs. Nashville. Harrison has recorded seven points (2G / 5A) with a plus-3 rating in 32 games. To make room for him the Hurricanes moved Cam Ward (lower-body) to IR.

Harrison (lower-body) will not play tonight vs. Columbus.

Harrison left Saturday's game after playing only 4:23 and did not return. His injury is not believed to be serious and he is listed as day-to-day. With Harrison taking a seat, Ryan Murphy will re-enter the lineup after serving as a healthy scratch for the last two games.
