Smith will come up and serve as Calvin Pickard’s backup after going 5-8-0 with a 2.57 GAA and .911 SV%. This move is likely more about getting Spencer Martin games while Pickard is playing well then wanting to call-up Smith.
Smith, 26, has gone 7-3-1 with a 2.07 GAA and .932 SV% in 11 games with Providence this season. His recall suggests that something is ailing either Tuukka Rask or Jonas Gustavsson and Smith will be backing one of them up in Wednesday’s game in New York.
Smith, 26, lost the Bruins’ backup job to Jonas Gustavsson and has been sent back to Providence where he will split the crease with Malcolm Subban. Smith was 22-11-5 with a 2.05 GAA and .933 SV% in 39 games with Providence last season.
Tuukka Rask is reportedly under the weather, so it sounds like Smith might get called upon to backup Niklas Svedberg tonight vs. the Sabres.
Smith served as Niklas Svedberg’s backup last night, but his return to the AHL suggests that Tuukka Rask will be capable to backup at the very least.
Smith, 25, has been recalled because Tuukka Rask is sick and may not be available tonight. Coach Claude Julien did not say that Niklas Svedberg will start if Rask can’t leaving the door open for Smith to potentially make his NHL debut vs. the Flames. he has god 14-8-4 with a 2.08 GAA and .931 SV% with Providence this season.
Smith did not appear in a game during his call-up. His assignment to the AHL means that Curtis McElhinney is good to return after missing the last two games.
Smith was the 54th overall pick in 2007 and has been great for Springfield this season. He has posted an 11-3-1 record with a 2.58 GAA and .908 SV% in 15 games. He will serve as Mike McKenna's backup with Curtis McElhinney on the shelf.
Sounds like Smith will be the backup for Pekka Rinne.
Smith has no fantasy hockey value while in the minors.
