Joni Pitkanen News

RALEIGH, NC – Jim Rutherford, President and General Manager of the National Hockey League’s Carolina Hurricanes, today announced that forward Jeff Skinner has been diagnosed with a concussion and is out indefinitely.

Pitkanen is the top minute eater on the Canes and will missed. Considering he is out indefinitely, it may be safe to drop the former 4th overall pick.

Pitkanen has been sent back to Raleigh, Rutherford says, so will miss Leafs game. Pitkanen still day-to-day with upper-body injury.

Pitkanen was unable to play in the Canes last game and was a late scratch. It sounds like he will miss at least one game and that veteran Jaroslav Spacek will fill in for him.

Defenseman Joni Pitkanen returned to practice Thursday and possibly could play Sunday against the Ottawa Senators, Canes coach Paul Maurice said.

Pitkanen was recently downgraded from day-to-day to week-to-week. The Finnish stalwart will continue to help a defense-first lineup get back on the winning side when he returns.
