Justin Fontaine News

The Stars have signed Justin Fontaine to a PTO; expected to play Friday vs. the Kings.

Fontaine spent the first three years of his NHL career with the Minnesota Wild. The 28-year-old was a quality point-producer in the AHL but failed to translate that into his NHL game, picking up just 68 points (27G / 41A) in 197 career games with the Wild.

Fontaine has missed the first two games of the season, but he is expected to make his season debut on Thursday vs. the Coyotes. Fontaine is expected to skate on the Wild’s third line with Thomas Vanek and Charlie Coyle. The 27-year-old forward had nine goals and 22 assists (31 points) in 71 games last season.

Fontaine (groin) is skating on the Wild's second line on Tuesday.

Fontaine has not played this season due to a groin injury, but he appears to be on track to play on Friday vs. the Ducks. He was skating on the Wild's second line this morning with Mikko Koivu and Thomas Vanek. The extended rest should allow Fontaine to get to 100 per cent before Friday's contest. The 26-year-old winger had 13 goals and eight assists (21 points) in 66 games last year.

Justin Fontaine will miss tonight's game after inadvertantly colliding with Keith Ballard in practice Friday.

Wild head coach Mike Yeo says he is sore and will see the doctors tonight at the arena. Yeo hopes it's not serious. In the meantime, Brett Bulmer has recalled and will slide into Fontaine's spot on the third line with Matt Cooke and Charlie Coyle.
