Justin Peters News

Peters is expected to get his second start of the season on Sunday in Vancouver.

Peters stopped 20 of 21 shots in a win over the Panthers last Saturday. He has allowed three goals on 37 shots (.919 SV%) in his two outings this season. He has a fairly tough matchup against a Canucks team who are 4-3-0 on the year.

Peters will make his first start with the Capitals.

Peters allowed two goals on 16 shots in a relief effort of Braden Holtby on Tuesday. The 28-year-old netminder went 7-9-4 with a 2.50 GAA and .919 SV% with the Hurricanes last season. He draws a nice spot start matchup tonight vs. the Panthers.

The Capitals have signed goaltender Justin Peters to a two-year contract worth $1.9 million.

Peters, 27, was 7-9-4 with a 2.50 GAA and .919 SV% in a back-up role behind Cam Ward and Anton Khudobin in Carolina last year. The Capitals needed to find a serviceable back-up to push Braden Holtby and they think they've found their guy in Peters.

The Hurricanes have recalled Justin Peters from Charlotte following his conditioning stint.

Peters, 27, was assigned to Charlotte for a conditioning stint on Feb. 19. He was 3-1-1 during the assignment, and has a record of 4-1-1 with a 2.14 GAA and .932 SV% in six AHL games this season. Peters has spent the majority of the 2013-14 season with Carolina, posting a 7-9-4 record, 2.50 GAA and .919 SV% in 21 NHL games.

Today will mark Peters first start since December 27, he allowed four goals on 26 shots in a loss to the Penguins. With the emergence of Anton Khudobin, Peters has been bumped into the backup role once again. He is 7-9-4 with a 2.38 GAA and .922 SV% this season. Peters is also 0-1-1 in two starts against the Lightning.

Hurricanes head coach Kirk Muller says Peters could play Sunday against Tampa Bay but did not commit to it. But says Peters will get some work soon.

WIth Khudobin forced to make 37 saves in last night's win over the Panthers, I believe there is a good chance that Peters gets the start. Muller is expected to address the media about two hours before the 5 pm EST puck-drop. A goalie could be announced then, if not then we will wait for warmups at 4:30 pm EST.

Justin Peters
Hurricanes head coach Kirk Muller would not disclose his starting goalie when addressing the media. We will stick with Peters after Anton Khudobin played yesterday. We will have to wait until pre-game warmups to confirm the Carolina starter.

Peters has not started since December 27, when he allowed four goals on 26 shots in a loss to the Penguins. He has lost his last three starts while allowing 11 goals. Tonight he would face the Predators, who he beat 5-2 on December 5.

Peters stopped 47 of 50 shots in a 3-2 OT loss to the Lightning on Saturday. After the great performance on the weekend, it would be surprising to see the Hurricanes go to Cam Ward. Despite sharing the crease, Peters is 3-1-2 with a 1.64 GAA and .948 SV% in December.

Peters off the ice first; expected to start.

Peters gave up three goals on 31 shots in Saturday's 4-2 loss to St. Louis. It was the first time in six starts that Peters gave up more than two goals. He has been a workhorse with Cam Ward on the shelf, but with his return just around the corner this could be the end of Peter's fantasy relevance.
