The Wild announced Monday a pair of massive injuries as both Kirill Kaprizov and Filip Gustavsson will be away from the team for weeks due to injury. Kaprizov (upper body) left Minnesota's December 30th game after just 15:30 TOI and is now expected to miss the next 1-to-2 weeks after being placed on the Injured Reserve. Kaprizov has 40 goals, 35 assists, 261 SOG, 45 PIMs and a +4 plus/minus through 67 games this season but will not play Thursday in Minnesota's final game of the season. The 25-year-old impressively closes out his second-straight 40-goal season.
Kaprizov missed the Wilds' previous game due to rest related reasons but will draw back into the lineup Tuesday vs. Winnipeg. The 25-year-old is having a sensational season, with his 39 goals, 35 assists, 253 SOG, 45 PIMs and +6 plus/minus through 66 games played this season.
Kaprizov returned after a month-long absence (injury) to play in the Wilds' previous game vs. St. Louis but will not play Monday due to rest purposes. The 25-year-old is having a sensational season, with his 39 goals, 35 assists, 253 SOG, 45 PIMs and +6 plus/minus through 66 games played this season.
Kaprizov was forced to leave Wednesday's contest vs. Winnipeg after just 14:50 TOI due to a lower-body injury after he got tangled up with Winnipeg defender Logan Stanley. It is a massive loss for the Wild as they lose their leading scorer, who had 39 goals, and 35 assists, alongside 250 SOG, 45 PIMs and a +6 plus/minus through 65 games prior to his injury.
Kaprizov ended up missing just one game with an upper-body injury that he suffered last Thursday. In addition to getting Kaprizov back on Friday, Joel Eriksson Ek, Jordan Greenway and Brandon Duhaime are also expected to play.
Kaprizov suffered an upper-body injury in Boston on Thursday and will miss at least one game. The Wild told reporters that Kaprizov is still being evaluated, so expect a more detailed timetable in the coming days. Luckily for the Wild, after Saturday's game, they are off until next Friday (Jan.14), so Kaprizov may not miss many games if it's relatively short-term.
There was some concern whether or not Kaprizov would return to the Wild after signing a deal in the KHL this summer. However, the Wild were able to get him under contract for the next five years--presumably the best years of his career. At the age of 23-years-old, he dazzled in his rookie season, scoring 27 goals with 24 assists (51 points) in 55 games, winning the Calder Trophy. Coming into his second season, Kaprizov is a threat to finish at a point-per-game pace and should be considered one of the top LW options in fantasy.
Kaprizov was drafted in the fifth-round back in 2015 but has been regarded as one the best NHL affiliated prospects in the world over the last few years. The 23-year-old Russian took his game to new heights in 2020, setting KHL career-bests in goals (33) and points (62) in 57 games. With the KHL playoffs cancelled due to Covid-19, Kaprizov became eligible to sign with the Wild and come to the NHL.
