Marco Sturm News

Sturm has officially announced his retirement.

Sturm played 14 seasons in the NHL. He was originally drafted 21st overall by the San Jose Sharks in 1996. He played seven and a half seasons with the Sharks before moving on to Boston for four and a half seasons. Towards the end of his career he bounced around with the Kings, Capitals, Canucks and Panthers. He totalled 242 goals, 245 assists (487 points) in 938 regular season games. He also had 22 points (9G / 13A) in 68 playoff games.

The Panthers are one over now – forward wise – so Marco Sturm will be scratched tonight. He played about 12 minutes in his first game back from a concussion on Wednesday and is taking it slow so he doesn’t have a relapse of any kind.

With everyone healthy, Sturm might be the odd-man out. He has two goals and three points in 28 games with the Cats.

Kevin Dineen, freshly recharged from a boat trip to Key West, said that F Marco Sturm (concussion) should be back in the lineup this week.

Sturm is very close to returning to the lineup and practiced with John Madden and Matt Bradley today. He has two goals and an assist through 27 games.

Although Sturm has plans to take some time off, he won't stay off the ice too long as he hopes to return next week as the Panthers kickoff a run of four straight divisional games on Feb. 1 against the Capitals.

Expect Sturm to get back into the lineup shortly. The veteran winger has two goals and three points through 27 games with the Cats.

Three of the four sidelined forwards traveled as Marco Sturm (concussion) needs another week of skating before he rejoins the lineup.

Sturm needs at least one more week before returning to the lineup. The veteran scored two goals and three points in 27 games with the Cats before getting hurt.
