Hannikainen has not played in an NHL game this season after picking up seven points (4G / 3A) in 44 games with Columbus last year. Instead he's got 18 points (7G / 11A) in 28 AHL games and is expected to Tucson (AHL) where he can build on that.
Hannikainen has registered four points (1G / 3A) in five AHL games this season and comes up ahead of the Blue Jackets' Friday/Saturday back-to-back. With Alexandre Texier out, Hannikainen could replace Jakob Lilja and make his season debut this week. He has 15 points (8G / 7A) in 91 career games with Columbus.
Hannikainen had one goal in two games with the Monsters to start the AHL season. He takes Josh Anderson’s spot on the roster and returns to the NHL, where he had seven points (4G / 3A) in 44 games last year.

Hannikainen has spent the majority of the year with the Blue Jackets, where he has two goals and two assists in 27 games. During his time Cleveland, the 24-year-old winger registered three assists in seven games. He is not expected to draw into the lineup on Friday.
Hannikainen made a costly mistake at the end of Tuesday’s overtime win in Carolina, but head coach John Tortorella said that it’s not related to that but that Zac Dalpe needs to play.
