Mattias Ohlund News

While the Tampa Bay Lightning’s injury situation has certainly improved as of late, the team received news that defenseman Mattias Ohlund, who has missed each of the Lightning’s 58 games this season, will have major surgery performed on his left knee that has had him sidelined since early October.

You have to imagine Ohlund misses the rest of the season due to this injury.

Lightning coach Boucher said Ohlund "close," though that's relative as he also said Ohlund still looking at one to two weeks before playing.

Ohlund has yet to play a game and likely misses the rest of November. The veteran defender could help stabilize the team's shaky defense but won't impact your fantasy hockey team whatsoever.

Lightning D Ohlund took a step, though a brief one, today by skating for the first time since knee surgery. His return still a long way off

No need to roster Ohlund as he likely remains a month or two away from returning to the Lightning. Through 139 games with the Bolts, the Pitea, Sweden still has not registered a single goal.

Ohlund is expected to miss 2-3 months, which should safely eliminate him as a fantasy hockey option. Considering he is still looking for his first goal as a Bolt over two seasons, he likely will be available when healthy. This injury effects the Lightning a bunch more than it will any fake hockey team.

Sounds like Ohlund suffered a setback, which should keep the Lightning to dressing six d-men. Last season he managed only five assists over 72 games. He is still looking for his first goal with the Tampa Bay Lightning.
