Mitchell Callahan News
Callahan, 25, has 14 goals and 22 assists (36 points) in 53 games with Grand Rapids this season. Callahan is a scrappy player that will replace Steve Ott, who was traded to Montreal late on Tuesday night.
Callahan, 24, spent the entire 2015-16 season with Grand Rapids (AHL), where he had 19 goals and 13 assists (32 points) in 62 games. He plays a pest-style game, perfect for a bottom-6 role in Detroit, but there are far too many veteran forwards in his path for Callahan to be a Red Wing in 2016-17.
Callahan played 9:01 in his NHL debut on Tuesday night vs. Columbus. Callahan has been sent back to the Griffins because Tomas Jurco will be back in the lineup on Thursday.
Callahan will be just the 30th California-born player to make it to the NHL. Callahan has recorded 25 goals and 15 assists in 66 games in the AHL this season. He will replace Cory Emmerton in the lineup tonight vs. the Blue Jackets.
Callahan, 22, was drafted in the sixth-round (180th overall) in 2009. He is in his third season with Grand Rapids, where he has 25 goals and 15 assists (40 points) in 66 games. He could make his NHL debut on Tuesday with Landon Ferraro swapping places with him.
No immediate fantasy hockey value in the AHL.
