Nate Schmidt did not take part in the Jets' practice Thursday as he is dealing with a lower-body injury and is considered day-to-day. The 32-year-old defenseman is in his third season with Winnipeg and had seven goals, 12 assists, 101 SOG, 19 PIMs and a +15 plus/minus through 71 games played in 2022-23. The Jets are expecting to have him back before their season opener in October.

The 31-year-old completed his second successful campaign in Winnipeg, hitting the seven-goal mark for the third time in his 10-year career.
Schmidt has not played since Dec. 15th due to an upper-body injury but will draw back into the Jets' lineup Friday vs. Tampa Bay. The 31-year-old veteran defenseman had three goals, three assists, 37 SOG and a +6 plus/minus through 29 games prior to the injury.
Schmidt left Thursday's contest vs. Nashville after just seven shifts and 5:30 TOI due to an upper-body injury and will head to the injured reserve Friday. Schmidt will be forced to miss action for the first time this season after collecting three goals, six points, 37 SOG and a +6 plus/minus through 29 games prior to the injury.
Schmidt missed Sunday's game vs. the Avalanche but is expected to play Wednesday vs. the Flyers. Schmidt has tallied 32 points (4G / 28A) across 74 games this season but has just one assist in his last 12 games.
Schmidt missed three games last week while in COVID-19 protocol but was back at practice on Monday and should be in the lineup on Wednesday. Schmidt has just seven points (1G / 6A) in his last 20 games.
Schmidt tested positive at the rink this morning and will not be available for Wednesday's game in Buffalo. He's also in danger of missing tomorrow's game in Toronto and Saturday's game vs. the Kings. In addition to Connor, Kyle Connor was also added to the COVID-19 protocol list on Wednesday.
Schmidt has been out since the season opener but will be back in the lineup vs. the Canadiens. Head coach Gerard Gallant did not disclose his D-pairs but Schmidt will likely be heavily utilized in his return. Schmidt had 30 points (9G / 21A) in 61 games last year.
Schmidt was hurt in the first period of the season opener and is expected to miss at least a couple of weeks with a lower-body injury. With Schmidt sidelined, Nicolas Hague will draw into the Golden Knights lineup and make his NHL debut on Friday.
Schmidt had to be aided off the ice following a knee-on-knee collision midway through the first period. Schmidt did not return and head coach Gerard Gallant did not have a postgame update. Expect the Golden Knights to release some more information on Thursday.
The Golden Knights struggled without Schmidt, going 8-11-1 during his 20-game suspension. The 27-year-old is coming off of a career-year, having scored five goals with 31 assists (36 points) in 76 games. He will likely replace Jon Merrill and play huge minutes on the Vegas top pair on Sunday.
