Scherbak only scored one goal in eight games with the Kings after being claimed off of waivers from Montreal. Scherbak heads to the AHL where he has 28 goals and 67 assists (95 points) in 145 career games.
Scherback must have suffered the concussion during the Canadiens’ loss to the Jets on Tuesday. With just two games left in the season, Scherbak’s season is effectively over. He had four goals and two assists (six points) in 26 games during his time with the Canadiens.
Scherbak, who has one goal and two assists in Montreal this season, has spent the majority of his season with Laval, where he has 30 points (7G / 23A) in 26 games. Scherbak should see playing time down the stretch with the Canadiens out of the playoff race.
Scherbak suffered the injury last Thursday and underwent surgery today. Scherbak is expected to be sidelined until mid-December and will likely return to the ice with Laval (AHL) but could work his way back to the NHL.
Scherbak, 21, was a first round pick (No.26 overall) in 2014 and appeared in three games with Montreal last season—scoring one goal. The Russian winger has been off to a great start this season, registering nine points (1G / 8A) in six games with Laval. He could make his season debut on Tuesday with Ales Hemsky sidelined with an upper-body injury.
Scherbak, 21, was the Canadiens’ first round pick (26th overall) in 2014 and has scored 10 goals with 10 assists (20 points) in 27 games with St. John’s this season. Scherbak could get an extended look with the Canadiens with Brendan Gallagher out for at least eight weeks with fractured left hand.
