Patrick has been out since March 24th and the Golden Knights recently announced that he wasn't close to returning to the lineup. He was one of three players added to LTIR on Tuesday to make room for Mark Stone to be activated for their game in Vancouver.
Patrick has not played since October 22nd but he is no stranger to missing long stretches of play. The 23-year-old has one goal in four games with the Golden Knights.
Patrick was part of the three-way trade that sent Ryan Ellis to Philadelphia this offseason and gets a small raise from $925K AAV to $1.2M AAV with Vegas. The former No.2 overall pick (2017) has had a tough start to his NHL career, being slowed down by a migraine disorder in 2020. He was able to log 52 games a season ago but tallied just nine points (4G / 5A). With the Golden Knights he will be looking to reignite his game at the age of 23.
Patrick was traded from the Flyers to the Predators as a part of the Ryan Ellis trade but was flipped to the Golden Knights for Cody Glass. Patrick was selected four spots before Glass in the 2017 NHL Draft but has had migraine issues that have kept him off of the ice in recent seasons. In 2021, Patrick scored four goals with five assists (nine points) in 52 games with the Flyers and has 70 points (30G / 40A) in his first 197 career NHL games.
Patrick, who has missed the entire season with a migraine condition, skated in a regular jersey in Wednesday's practice. Head coach Alain Vigneault downplayed his appearance on the ice because the team only worked on skills, but its positive nonetheless. This is a huge step for the 2017 No.2 overall pick, who will likely head to Lehigh Valley (AHL) for a conditioning stint once he's ready for game action.
Flyers GM Chuck Fletcher met with the media on Tuesday and said that he expects him to play this year. Patrick has missed the first 46 games of the 2019-20 season with a migraine disorder and remains week-to-week.
Patrick is dealing with a migraine disorder and still hasn't been cleared to practice with his teammates. The move to LTIR enables the Flyers to carry Morgan Frost on the roster and activate Scott Laughton from LTIR. There is no timetable for Patrick's return at this moment.
Patrick will not be going to Europe to start the season and is officially listed as week-to-week. With Patrick missing a couple of weeks, Connor Bunnaman is expected to serve as the Flyers fourth-line centre to begin the season.
Flyers’ GM Chuck Fletcher will have an update on Patrick’s status in the next couple of days. At this point, it looks like Patrick will miss the start of the NHL season, which opens the door for Joel Farabee to crack the opening night roster.
