Granberg, 23, spent the majority of the 2015-16 season as an extra defensman for the Predators, appearing in 27 games with Nashville and six games with Milwaukee (AHL). He picked up two assists during his time with the Predators and will likely fill the same role in 2016-17.
Granberg has been a healthy scratch in the last four games, but will be in the lineup tonight in Winnipeg. Granberg has no points in 13:12 TOI in his season debut on January 9th. Anthony Bitetto will be a healthy scratch with Granberg back in.
Granberg was a minus-1 in 14:18 in last night’s loss to the Islanders. The Maple Leafs will need to recall another defenseman before Wednesday’s game against the Sabres.
Granberg, 22, has no points in six games with the Maple Leafs this season. While with the Marlies, he has 12 points (1G / 11A) in 35 games. He will likely finish with the season with the Maple Leafs with Stephane Robidas and Roman Polak both out for the year.
With Dion Phaneuf returning to the lineup on Thursday, Granberg’s services are no longer needed, so he has been reassigned to the Marlies.
Granberg was sent down yesterday, but when the Maple Leafs traded Cody Franson to the Predators a spot on the Leafs blue line opened back up. Granberg will likely lineup next to Morgan Rielly on Tuesday.
Granberg did not get into the lineup during his recall, but heads back to the AHL where he has seven points (1G / 6A) in 29 games.

Granberg was recalled as insurance for Cody Franson, who was a game-time decision for Saturday’s game. Granberg did not get into the game and Dion Phaneuf is expected to return soon so Granberg heads back to the minors.
Granberg’s recall suggests that one of the Maple Leafs defenseman’s status for tonight is in doubt. If Granberg gets into the lineup, it would be his fourth game of the season—he has no points in his first three games.
