Balcers was originally a fifth-round pick of the Sharks but was traded to the Senators as a part of the Erik Karlsson deal in 2018. He appeared in 51 career games with the Senators, scoring six goals with 11 assists (17 points), and now returns to San Jose where he could work his way into a bottom-6 role.
Balcers, who has one assist in seven games with the Senators this season, will come up after the Senators gutted their roster this afternoon. During his time in the AHL, the 22-year-old has scored 16 goals with 20 assists (36 points) in 33 games.
Balcers has played in seven straight games but will be scratched in favour of Mikkel Boedker on Saturday. Balcers had one assist while averaging 10:15 ATOI in those seven games.
Balcers played in six straight games but will be scratched in place of Scott Sabourin against the Golden Knights.
Balcers is fourth among Belleville skaters in points with 24 (8G / 16A) despite playing in just 19 games. The 22-year-old, who has 14 points (5G / 9A) in 36 career NHL games, is expected to make his season debut on Thursday.
Balcers has spent the majority of the season in the AHL, where he has 15 goals and 13 assists (28 points) in 38 games with Belleville. During eight games in Ottawa, Balcers has one goal and one assist.
Balcers has one goal and one assist in eight games since being called-up, playing an average of 9:51 TOI/gm. He is expected to be replaced by Mark Borowiecki as the Senators are likely going with 11 forwards and seven defensemen.
Balcers has had a solid season in Belleville, scoring 14 goals with 12 assists (26 points) in 36 games. The former fifth-round pick could make his NHL debut this weekend after replacing Jack Rodewald on the Senators roster.
