MacInnis appeared in 10 games with the Blue Jackets last season but will make his first appearance on Thursday. He opened the season in the AHL, scoring one goal with one assist in five games with Cleveland.
MacInnis, who had one assist in seven games with the Blue Jackets earlier this season, will replace Alexander Wennberg who is expected to miss at least three weeks with an upper-body injury. During his time in the AHL, the 23-year-old MacInnis has scored six goals with 16 assists (22 points) in 36 games.
MacInnis appeared in seven games during his call-up but was a healthy scratch for the last five games. His demotion made room for Cam Atkinson (ankle) to be activated from IR. He returns to Cleveland, where he has 15 points (3G / 12A) in 28 games.
