Kuhnhackl was called up prior to Tuesday's game vs. the Predators but did not play. He is expected to replace Leo Komarov in Boston and is still searching for his first point of the season.
Michael Dal Colle was injured over the weekend, so it looks like Kuhnhackl will replace him in the lineup on Tuesday. Kuhnhackl, who had no points in six NHL games before getting demoted, had two assists in four AHL games.
Kuhnhackl was already expected to miss 4-to-6 weeks with an undisclosed injury so his movement to IR is simply a formality to open up a roster spot to bring up reinforcements.
Kuhnhackl had four goals and five assists (nine points) while appearing in just 36 games with the Islanders last season. The 27-year-old also registered three assists in eight games during the Islanders brief postseason run. He returns on a one-year deal where he will likely play in the Islanders bottom-6.
Kuhnhackl has been playing a big role as of late but will sit with Andrew Ladd returning to the lineup on Tuesday. Kuhnhackl recorded just one assist in his last seven games.
Kuhnhackl was listed as questionable for tonight’s game despite taking part in the morning skate. With Kuhnhackl missing his second straight game, Ross Johnston will remain in the lineup.
Kuhnhackl was held out of the lineup in Detroit on Saturday but was back on the ice for Monday’s morning skate. Despite taking part, head coach Barry Trotz was unsure if Kuhnhackl would be available to play against his former team tonight.
Kuhnhackl has recorded just one goal in four games with the Islanders, but picked up three points (2G / 1A) in his only game with Bridgeport during his demotion. He could draw back into the lineup vs. Montreal on Monday.
Kuhnhackl scored his first goal of the season last night, but heads to Bridgeport so the Islanders could call-up Christopher Gibson. Kuhnhackl had 15 points (7G / 8A) in 23 games with Wilkes-Barre/Scranton the last time he was in the AHL (2015-16).
Kuhnhackl was a healthy scratch during the first two games of the season, but will make his debut this afternoon vs. the Sharks. Kuhnhackl has just 39 career points (11G / 28A) in 168 games with the Penguins.
Kuhnhackl left Tuesday’s game early and did not return and it looks like he’s going to miss a couple of weeks. Kuhnhackl was filling in for Conor Sheary in the top-9, but it looks like Sheary could take his spot back in Dallas.
