The Maple Leafs have acquired Veini Vehvilainen from the Blue Jackets for Mikko Lehtonen.
Veini Vehvilainen News
The Blue Jackets have recalled Veini Vehvilainen from Cleveland (AHL).
Vehvilainen is in his first year in North America, going 8-10-1 with a 2.22 GAA and .918 SV% in 19 games. Matiss Kivlenieks didn't appear in a game during his call-up, so expect Vehvilainen to serve as Elvis Merzlikins backup as well.
The Blue Jackets have signed Veini Vehvilainen to a two-year, entry-level contract.
Vehvilainen was selected in the sixth-round (No.173 overall) in the 2018 NHL Draft and went 25-8-5 with a 1.58 GAA and .930 SV% in 38 games with Karpat of the Finnish Elite League. Vehvilainen was named the league’s top goaltender award, won the league championship and was a part of the World Championship Finnish team.
