Simmonds was a second-round pick of the Los Angeles Kings in the 2007 NHL Entry Draft and announced an end to his 15-year career on Monday. The 35-year-old SImmonds most recently played with the Toronto Maple Leafs last season, being limited to only 18 games, scoring two points (0G / 2A). Simmonds has one assist, seven SOG and 34 PIMs across 13 games with the Maple Leafs this season but has once again cleared waivers as he has been reassigned to the AHL.
Simmonds will head to the press box as his Toronto Maple Leafs take on his old team, the Los Angeles Kings. The veteran winger has an assists, four PIMs and six SOG through limited action as a member of the Leafs' fourth line.
Simmonds will head back down to the Toronto Marlies (AHL) after Matt Murray was activated off the injured reserve Tuesday. In four games prior to his demotion, the 15-year-veteran had one assist and three SOG while only averaging 7:29 TOI per game.

Wayne Simmonds will see his first NHL action of the 2022-23 season Saturday as the Maple Leafs head to Winnipeg to take on the Jets. After being waived early in the season, Simmonds is expected to slot into a fourth-line role for the struggle Maple Leafs. Simmonds became a member of the 1000 games club last season and currently sits on 1019 games played. Throughout his 14-year career, he has 263 goals, and 524 points to go along with 2121 PIMs.
Simmonds cleared waivers and was assigned to the Marlies to open the season. However, with Matt Murray landing on LTIR, the Maple Leafs had enough cap space to bring him back. He skated as an extra on Sunday, so don't expect him to be in the lineup vs. the Coyotes on Monday.

Simmonds stayed back in Toronto on Wednesday to be with his wife for the birth of their child. The Maple Leafs said there was a possibility he would join the team in Calgary and play, but Jake Muzzin will dress as a seventh defenseman to replace him.
Simmonds and Jason Spezza were the latest to be added to the COVID-19 protocol list, joining Alexander Kerfoot and John Tavares. Tonight they are scheduled to play in Vancouver, where the Canucks are currently missing five players due to protocol.
Simmonds has been out since February 6th but will be back in the lineup on Friday. Simmonds will draw into the lineup on fourth line but will see time on the top power-play unit. He's scored five goals in 12 games so far this season.
As reported yesterday, Simmonds will miss an extended period of time after breaking his wrist on Saturday. With Simmonds out on Monday, Rasmus Sandin will make his season debut as the seventh defenseman.
