Michalek has 14 points (6G / 8A) in 43 games with Tucson this season, but earned himself a late-season call-up and will make his season debut on Monday. The 34-year-old blueliner has 178 points (42G / 136A) in 781 career NHL games and this might be a move to allow the veteran to finish out his Coyotes career in an NHL uniform.
Michalek, 33, has picked up just 29 points (8G / 21A) over the last three seasons and his physical brand of defence can be made up by a younger blueliner in Arizona. The Coyotes have an abundance of young defensemen and Michalek appears to be on the outside looking in.
Michalek is day-to-day with an upper-body injury, which means that Klas Dahlbeck will return to the lineup in Colorado. Michalek should be considered questionable for Wednesday’s game in Toronto.
Michalek missed Saturday’s game with an illness, but he was back on the ice on Monday, which suggests that he will be in the lineup on Tuesday vs. the Predators. If Michalek returns, look for Stefan Elliott to come out of the lineup.
